Tour Details

Trekking Lhasa – Everest Basecamp trekking tour is an amazing tour package. To begin with, we will explore major sites of religious and historical significance. For example, this will include Tibet attractions such as the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, and Drepung Monastery. This part of the trip is to ensure gradual acclimatization to the altitude.

Following exploration Lhasa, we will drive through some of the marvellous landscapes and we will visit key stunning sights in the southwest and central Tibet. For example, Yamdrok Lake, the Karo La Glacier, and the Pelkhor Chode Monastery in Gyantse, which is one of the oldest towns in central Tibet. Next, we will go to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city and home to the largest Buddhist monastery of Tashi Lhunpo. After Shigatse, the overland drive will provide amazing views of the world’s highest mountain range. The trekking that begins from Shelkar onward to the Everest Basecamp provides a great combination of tranquillity, sightseeing, and physical challenge. You will accomplish 70 km of the trek in 4 days.

Good to Know about Trekking tour Lhasa – Everest Base Camp

Best Time of Visit

The package journey, inclusive of 4-day trekking, from Lhasa – Everest Base Camp via Ra Chu Valley can be done anytime from mid-April through to late October. Upon joining, each participant will be sent a list of required and recommended gear for this journey that they will be responsible for.

Accommodation:

In Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse, you will be staying in a comfortable and pleasant boutique or 3-star Tibetan-owned hotels. Accommodation in other areas of Tibet, such as Everest Base Camp will be best locally available guesthouses. In the Everest Region (Shelkar, Everest Base Camp), accommodations will be very basic, as these areas are very remote and poor. Guesthouses often have no heating facilities, but plenty of blankets upon request. Toilets are usually outside and are not always as hygienic. Showers are often unavailable or only available at the local shower house.

Eligibility:

You must be in good health and physically fit to be able to do foot journeys around towns, villages, and monasteries with their own equipment. Most of this tour, especially the trekking component, will take place in mountainous terrain between 3600 meters and 5200 meters (11,800 feet to 17,000 feet) above sea level. You will spend 3 nights in Lhasa for altitude acclimatization before going above 3600 meters. Ascent will be slow and gradual to reduce the risks of altitude-related illness. This tour is not recommended for those who have severe asthma or who have had problems with high elevation in the past.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Lhasa Elevation 3590 meters

  • AM: Arrive in Lhasa & Acclimatization
  • PM: Self-paced exploration around the Bakhor street

Day 2Around Lhasa Elevation 3590 meters

  • Explore the“spiritual heart” of Lhasa city, the Jokhang temple, and the surrounding old quarters
  • Explore Tsamkhung Nunnery, one of the largest nunneries in the Lhasa
  • Visit Sera Monastery, one of the “great three” Buddhist monasteries, noted for their Buddhist dialectic debate session usually held in the afternoons

Day 3In and Around Lhasa Elevation 3590 meters

  • Visit the Potala Palace, the iconic building in Lhasa and a World Heritage Site
  • Explore Ramoche Temple, considered to be the sister temple to the Jokhang temple
  • Continue to explore old quarters of the town

Day 4Lhasa -Yamdrok Lake – Karo La Glacier-Gyantse Distance 260kms   Elevation 3,980 meters

  • Depart Lhasa early in the morning, all day overland drive
  • Cross over the Kamba La Pass (4795 meters) – stop by at the summit for a stunning view of the Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred (freshwater) lakes in Tibet, and the 7191 meters high Mt. Nojin Kangtsang in the distance
  • Descend and drive by the lakeshore, and cross over Karo La Pass – a striking glaciated landscape
  • Arrive in Gyantse, a small, but the prominent town in Tibet
  • Overnight stay in Gyantse

Day 5Gyantse —Shigatse—Tashi Lhunpo Monastery  Distance 90kms  Elevation: 3840 meters

  • In Gyantse, visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery, and the Gyantse Kumbum – a 32 meters (105 ft) high structure, a nine-tier building with 108 gates
  • Leave Gyantse and head to Shigtase, the second-largest town and the traditional capital of west-central province of Tibet
  • Stop by a couple of interesting farmers’ villages en routeto experience traditional Tibetan culture
  • Visit the majestic Tashi Lhunpo monastery in Shigatse, to witness the largest gilded statue of Future Buddha in Tibet
  • Overnight stop in Shigatse

Day 6Shigatse –Gyatso La –Shelkar  Distance 240kms Elevation 4315 meters

  • Leave Shigatse city, and travel west
  • Cross over the Gyatso La Pass (a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5220 meters)
  • Stop by at the summit for a great view of the Himalaya range
  • Drive on and Reach Shelkar,
  • Overnight stop in Shelkar, the gateway junction to Mt. Everest

Day 7Shelkar to Lungthang Distance 12kms Elevation 4510 meter

  • 1stDay: Trek for 5 hours or so through Ra-chu valley renowned for exotic valley scenery
  • Visit a small monastery in Choelunen route
  • Overnight stay in camp in Lungthang

Day 8Lungthang to Lamna La Pass Distance 21kms  Elevation 5150 meters

  • 2ndDay: Trek uphill for 8 hours through quite a strenuous trail (200 meters up)
  • Reach the Lamna La Pass (5150meters) for a splendid panorama of the surrounding  mountain range
  • Overnight camping atop this pass

Day 9Lamna La Pass to Zommug Distance 22kms   Elevation 4790 meters

  • 3rdDay: Trek downhill for 8 hours or so, descending into lush vegetation (360 meters down)
  • Witness the spectacular view of the Mt. Everest in the distance
  • Overnight camping in Zommug Village, the highest permanent settlement in the Everest region

Day 10Zommug – Rongbuk Monastery – Everest Base Camp Distance 15kms Elevation 5150 meters

  • 4thDay – leave Zommug village for Rongbuk Monastery
  • Trek for 6 hours or so and stop by Rongbuk Monastery for a grand view of the Mt. Everest
  • Continue on foot for 8km along the dirt road to the base of Mt. Everest
  • Overnight stay in a guesthouse at Everest Base Camp

Day 11Everest Base Camp to Shigatse Distance 350 kms Elevation 3840 meters

  • Rise early to catch a stunning view of Mt Everest with sunshine reflected over it
  • Then, leave Everest Base Camp and drive back to Shigatse
  • Overnight stay in Shigatse

Day 12Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa, 280 Kms 7 hours drive

  • Leave Shigatse and travel back to Lhasa, taking the northern tarred Route
  • Reach Lhasa, and Rest
  • Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 13Departure from Tibet.

  • Transfer to Lhasa train station or Lhasa airport
