Tour Details

The package, Nepal to Tibet Overland Tour With Everest Basecamp will be a great tour, as we will embark on the extended journey from Gyirong border. Moreover, it will include overland travel through some of the marvellous landscapes and visits to key stunning sites. For example, the world’s highest mountain range, and the north-facing Everest Base Camp, Mt. Shishapangma (alt.8012m), the Yamdrok Lake and the Karo La Glacier.

During Nepal to Tibet Overland Tour With Everest Basecamp tour, we will also tour around some of the historical and religious sites in Tibet. The sites are the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, and Drepung and Sera monasteries in and around Lhasa. In addition, we will tour the Tashi Lhunpo monastery to witness the largest gilded statue of Future Buddha in Tibet. Furthermore, we also tour the Pelkhor Chode Monastery in Gyantse, which has one of the best old towns in central Tibet.

Best Time of Visit

Best Time of Visit The package journey from Nepal to Tibet can be done anytime from mid-April through to late October. Therefore, we can arrange this journey for groups of two to ten people. Travel Gear:

Upon joining, each participant will be sent a list of required and recommended gear for this journey that they will be responsible for.

Accommodation:

In Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse, you will be staying in a comfortable and pleasant boutique or highly-rated 3-star Tibetan-owned hotels. Accommodation in other areas of Tibet, such as Everest Base Camp. On the tour, it will be best available guesthouses. In the Everest Region (Shelkar, Everest Base Camp, and Old Tingri), accommodations will be very basic, as these areas are very remote and poor. Guesthouses often have no heating facilities, but plenty of blankets upon request. Toilets are usually outside and are not always as hygienic. Showers are often unavailable or only available at the local shower house. In Nepal, you will stay at highly rated boutique hotels in a central location. Hotel upgrades are available in Lhasa and Kathmandu upon request.

Day 1Arrive in Gyirong border from Kathmandu Distance 170kms Elevation 2700m

  • Collection from Resuo Bridge by local Tibetan tour guide and driver, transfer to Gyirong town
  • Check-in hotel
  • Rest and acclimatization

Day 2Gyirong to Old Tingri Distance 210kms Elevation 4390m

  • Set off for old Tingri
  • Cross over the Thong La Pass, which has a breath-taking view of Shisha Pangma (alt.8012m), the 14th highest peak in the world
  • Overnight stop in old Tingri

Day 3Old Tingri – Everest Base Camp Distance 192kms Elevation 5150m

  • Travel on from old Tingri to EBC, cross over the Geu La Pass. And, enjoy a stunning view of the Himalaya Range and take a sweeping panoramic view of  Mt. Everest; Mt. Makalu; Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Cho You
  • Visit Rongbuk Monastery, claimed to be the highest monastery in the world (5000 meters)
  • Travel on to the tourist Everest Base Camp for the majestic sight/view of the Mt. Everest
  • Double back and overnight stop in Shelkar

Day 4Shelkar – Shigatse Distance 230kms Elevation 3800m

  • Leave Everest Base Camp and head back to Shigatse the second largest city in Tibet
  • Arrive in Shigatse and tour around Tashi Lhunpo, to witness the largest gilded statue of Future Buddha in Tibet – indeed a historic and culturally important Buddhist monastery
  • Overnight stay in Shigatse

Day 5Shigatse – Gyantse – Lhasa Distance 380km Elevation 3650m

  • Depart Shigatse early in the morning, all day overland drive, transiting through:
  • Arrive in Gyantse, a small, but the prominent town in Tibet visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery, and the Gyantse Kumbum – a 32 meters (105 ft.) high structure, a nine-tier building with 108 gates
  • Visit the magnificently tiered Pelkhor Chode Monastery, the largest Buddhist stupa in Gyantse
  • Karo La Pass – an amazing alpine view of the holy Mt. Nyenchen Kangsar glacier in the backdrop
  • Yamdrok Lake – a freshwater lake that you can see from the summit of Kamba-la (4700m)
  • Arrive in Lhasa and rest.

Day 6Explorations around Lhasa Elevation 3650m

  • Take a walk up and visit the Potala Palace, the fascinating landmark building in Lhasa, the winter residence of every Dalai Lama from the fifth to the current 14th
  • Explore the Jokhang temple, the “spiritual heart” of Lhasa city
  • Stroll around Barkhor street and the surrounding old quarters of the town

Day 7Explorations around Lhasa

  • Visit Drepung Monastery, one of the “Great Three” Buddhist monasteries in Tibet, afterwards, visit Nechung temple just below Drepung – the seat of the State Oracle of Tibet
  • Visit Sera Monastery, one of the “Great Three ”Buddhist university monasteries noted for their Buddhist dialectic debate session usually held in the afternoons

Day 8Depart Tibet

  • Transfer to the Lhasa airport
